Submission of a new manuscript for review

Manuscripts submitted for review must be in the IEEE double column format with single space 10p fonts and figures included in the text, so the length of the manuscript can be properly evaluated. At this stage, please do not spend too much time following the IEEE format (see PDF requirements), but PDF file should be readable on all continents. Figures should have large enough fonts. It is also easier to review manuscript if text and figures are together. Please do not include authors' names, footnotes, acknowledgement, bios or photos. Please do not submit cover letters, copyright form (at this time ),  or anything which could identify authors' names and affiliation. Author information must be entered only into Manuscript Central web pages.

The only file which has to be submitted (uploaded) at this time is the manuscript in PDF format (WORD files are also possible but please be sure that the file was properly converted by the submission system). At this time do not submit IEEE copyright form or authors' bios.

When submitting the manuscript follow this procedure:

  1. Before submitting manuscript read the  the Check list below and modify manuscript accordingly.
  2. Prepare manuscript in IEEE double column 10p format without information about authors' identification
  3. Open web page http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tie-ieee
  4. If you do not have yet an account please click on very top right corner "Create Account" and fill all required fields with your personal data (unless you have your user account already).  In order to avoid possible problems in the future please be sure that you have entered correct information. For example an error in email address may prevent you from using the Manuscript Central or password retrieval.
  5. Login and go to "Author Center" to submit your manuscript
  6. At this time, please do not upload any other files except the manuscript in PDF or WORD format (text and figures)
  7. Detailed step by step instructions can be found at http://tie.ieee-ies.org/tie/MCinf.html
  8. Frequently asked questions can be found at http://tie.ieee-ies.org/tie/faq/index.html

Please notice that in your Author Center you may check the current status of your manuscript such as: In EIC office, Assigned to AE, AE invites reviewers, AE assigns reviewers, Under review, Awaiting AE decision, and Awaiting EIC decision. If you find that your manuscript is not moving in the process for a month or more please contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Check list for manuscript sent for review

1.   Is your manuscript written in IEEE double column format with 10p font?   At this stage, it is not that essential that you  follow every detail of IEEE publishing format (for accurate formats you may visit minimun-xplorepdf.pdf ) but please try to follow the format as closely as possible, so both you and the reviewers may evaluate the actual length of your paper.

2.   In order to secure  an unbiased review process we are asking authors NOT to include their names or affiliations inside of the manuscript. Please remove from manuscript all information, which can identify authors (such as acknowledgement, footnotes, etc). Please DO NOT upload authors' bio or signed copyright form. This information will be needed once manuscript is accepted.

3. Please be sure that the manuscript is up to date.   It is expected that 10% to 20%  of references are to journal papers published recently. You may find  http://tie.ieee-ies.org/tie/abs/index.htm a convenient web page to search through TIE papers.

4. Is your title adequate and is your abstract correctly written?  In the age of electronic publications it is not easy to be noticed (Industrial Electronics Society alone receives over 5,000 conference and journal papers per year).  Authors have to do everything possible so the paper will be noticed and read.  Therefore, very careful wording should be used in the title and in the abstract.  Without a proper title and abstract a great paper might never be downloaded from IEEE Xplore and read.

5. What is a likelihood of citation of your manuscript?  Please notice that very soon your technical accomplishments will be evaluated based on the number of citations but not based on the number of papers published.  Therefore, your paper should very clearly describe your accomplishments so other people can understand what is your original contribution.

6.   Is the manuscript clearly written?  Is the article exciting? Does the content flow well from one section to another? Please try to keep your manuscript on the proper level.  It should be easy to understand by well qualified professionals, but at the same time please avoid describing well known facts (use proper references instead). Often manuscripts receive negative reviews because reviewers are not able to understand the manuscript and this is authors' (not reviewers') fault.  Notice, that if reviewers have difficulties, then other readers will face the same problem and there is no reason to publish the manuscript.

7.   Is your manuscript within the scope of IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics?  If not, we will not be able to provide adequate review. Our experience tells us that if we ask people not associated with TIE to evaluate manuscripts then in most cases we will not receive high quality reviews. In most cases they refuse to provide a review and, those individuals who do agree, provide reviews without proper depth.  Our best reviewers are the authors of previously published papers in TIE.

8.   Do you have enough references?  We will usually expect a minimum of 15 to 25 references primarily to journal papers, depending on the length of the paper (if you have doubt please consider using the formula to evaluate minimum number of references min_num_of_ref = 10 + 2 * num_of_pages ).  Citations of textbooks should be used very rarely and citations to web pages should be avoided. All cited papers should be referenced within the text of the manuscript.

9. If a significant portion of your manuscript was already published at a conference; please visit http://tie.ieee-ies.org/tie/faq/auth/confPap.htm and follow the instructions for the post conference papers.

10.  Is the length of your manuscript adequate?  Please notice that for long papers, you may face mandatory overlength charges of $160 per page.   These are the limits:

  • 4-8 printed pages for regular pages (including authors' bios and photos)

  • 1-3 printed pages for correspondence (authors' bios and photos should not be included)

Please be aware that for the final submission of a regular paper you will be asked to tailor your paper so the last page is not half empty.
